Did I Mention We Homeschool?

Well, being that this is our best year ever so far (that would be in 15 years of homeschooling) I figured I better start posting a few things documenting the fun!  Presenting "Cell In A Bag"!

Note, the nucleus (not quite in the center, actually the green "eye" at the bottom), the cellulose (cherry jello), various organelles, and we mustn't forget the golgi apparatus and the endoplasmic reticulum! (various candies).  Yes!  Learning is FUN!!!  And tasted ever so slightly disgusting, but that's not the point. :/

More to come!

Who'da Thunkit!

Who would have thought that a bout with illness and a thrown back could have turned out to be so productive!

Not very good lighting but still colorful.  I attempted a "boy" version on the left end but my eldest daughter assures me there can never be a "boy" version.....I don't know about that. ;)

Cranked out 3 more bags!  Severely needed for gift giving!

I also managed a dress/top from the latest Martha Stewart Living magazine.  It turned out quite cute, which was a shock to me, not being the sewer I wish I was.  But after printing it out from her website and taping the pages together (that was the hardest part to figure out), I actually ended up with something very satisfying!  I will follow up with pictures in the next couple of days.  I'm going to see if I can whip up another from the same pattern but shorter.

Just a couple of pix of my view while I was couch-ridden and crocheting away. :)

Clean enough to healthy, messy enough to be happy.

Grandma's Sewing Rocker

New life for Granny's rocker.  She told me she would sit and sew in this little chair.  It's surprisingly comfortable.  I'm still getting the handle on painting furniture.  This was a base coat and two glossy coats with a bit of sanding in between coats.  It's not as smooth and shiny as I'd like and I'm not sure how to get that look but if it requires more coats then that's just not gonna happen.  I'm happy enough with outcome.

I used old sheets to weave the seat and since they all had very nice hems about the same width, which I used, I think it will be very strong.  I think it's granny chic-y with some fraying and a bow I tied in front using the extra length of the last strip.

Wordless Wednesday

Caught Off Guard!

Never again!  Will I be caught off guard!  (Never say never) anyways the goal is to never be caught off guard again!

During the Christmas season there were so many gifts I thought of giving at the last minute and the only solution was to go out a buy them.  Well, no more!   I've set up a gift station and I'm crankin' out the ideas.  I've downloaded and searched magazines and books and have gathered a wonderful (my opinion) list of quick but lovely gifts.  These cute bags are from the Granny Chic book by Tif Fussell and Rachelle Blondel.  The bead creatures are from a 2001 edition of Martha Stewart's Kids magazine that she put out for a couple of years.  This mag had great ideas!

So, you see I have been producing.  Yay!  Sometimes I don't see it myself! o.o
