This year, instead of opening a cheapy prize everyday which ends up in the trash bin :( , I chose to spend the same amount of money and get something a little more special. Every Sunday they can each pick a package. The pink ones for one kid and the black for the other. I have way too much fun doing this! I threw in a bunch of tinsel that I picked up at Ikea which were marked down to 10 cents a box at the end of the season last year, each 2 1/4 yards long. Pretty good deal I thought. I wrapped the packages with it too. The container is a candle holder that is about 15 years old, there are some benefits to being a pack rat. I garnished with a bit of fake holly, I wish it were plastic to add to the tacky chic look but I'm satisfied.
The painting in the background is a piece that my husband had commissioned for our 13 anniversary by Claudia Alvarez. I'll show you some other art by her at another time. She's amazing!
The clock is a Seth Thomas, forgot the year made. I grew up with it. My parents collected antique clocks and when they divorced my mom got the clocks in the agreement. They ended up a sad memory for her but since they were a happy memory for me she let me have them. I have very happy, peaceful memories of my dad methodically winding them each week and I enjoy doing the every Saturday. I hope my children will have the same experience. Although, I believe they're at the age where the clocks can be quite a disturbance during slumber parties. I remember that too. :D
Finished the poncho! Pix coming soon.
Tootles :)
